When should you remove a tree?
We advise tree removal for each of these situations:
When a tree is damaged
The damage brought on by storms or extreme winds can affect your tree’s structural integrity, which can be dangerous not only to everyone living in your home but also surrounding neighbours and property.
When a tree is decaying, dying or dead
Trees can get infected with diseases just like humans. This can also compromise its structural integrity if left untreated.
When your tree gives you too much shade
Yes, there is such a thing! Having too much shade from a tree stops the sun from reaching your backyard or garden. If you don’t want to take down the tree, consider tree pruning as another option.
When your tree gets infested
Various insects can infest trees by boring holes into the trunks, which causes the tree to starve. Sometimes insects lay eggs and burrow deeper into the tree. By this point, it’s too late for treatment, and the tree needs to be cut down.
When your tree is too close to your property
There is the risk of your tree causing damage to your home’s foundation. It’s better to remove the tree than waiting for it to cause costly damage not only to your home, but even your neighbours’ too.
When you’re doing renovations
Removing a tree frees up valuable space to expand your home, create a bigger outdoor area, or even both.
Should I remove a tree close to my house?
Trees hanging over the roof or too close to a structure may need to be removed, or at least regularly pruned. Trees that are too close to the property can damage the home’s foundation. In the long run, you might end up paying more to fix the damage done to your home. We recommend large trees should be at least 6 metres away from a house or building.
What happens if I cut down a tree without permission?
There are various Council regulations within Adelaide for tree removal and cutting trees down, so you could face serious consequences if you cut a tree without approval.
Before removing any tree from your property, we strongly suggest contacting your local Council or a qualified level five arborist to discuss your Council’s regulations on tree removal.
When choosing an arborist to carry out tree removal work on your property, be sure to check if they have relevant insurances in place, the right qualifications, and enough experience in the tree removal industry.
How do you get rid of a large tree?
When dealing with large, mature trees, we use a team of four arborists. This team comprises a climber, a backup climber (in case of emergencies) and two more ground crew.
Step 1:
The team does an onsite safety check to identify and plan for any nearby obstacles or hazards before starting the job.
Step 2:
The climber scales the tree and sets up their lines. The climber then uses a chainsaw to dismantle the tree (piece by piece) and lowers the segments to the ground crew below.
Step 3:
The ground crew removes the green waste from the site and disposes of the larger pieces in a wood-chipper.
Step 4:
Once all branches and canopy are removed, the climber either dismantles the trunk from the top down or – if there is enough space – descends so the ground crew can topple the entire tree.
Step 5:
We break the remaining green waste down in the wood chipper and then remove it from the site.
Step 6:
The crew conducts a last sweep of the property to ensure we leave it in as good, or better condition than when the job started.
We can normally take these large trees apart and remove them from a property within 1-2 hours.
